Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu took oath as the next Vice-President of India on Friday. The programme held at Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan at 10 am. Venkaiah Naidu is the 13th Vice President of India. The 68 years old Venkaiah Naidu defeated Gopal Krishna Gandhi in the vice-presidential election by getting 516 votes out of the total 771 votes cast while Gandhi could only manage 244 votes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Naidu, the BJP leader from Andhra Pradesh, as the first Vice-President of India who was born after India attained Independence. Prime Minister also said, “A Rajya Sabha Chairman as experienced as Venkaiah Naidu will only guide us towards betterment”. Modi bedecked Naidu with heaps of praise for his art of alliteration and oratory skills.
