The government today confirmed that one of the terminals at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Mumbai has been impacted by the latest Petya malware attack. “The (shipping) ministry has confirmed that one terminal at JNPT has been affected due to the attack at Maersk’s Hague office,” an official said, adding that the government will share a report or a statement as soon as it comes to this effect. Maritime conglomerate Maersk group confirmed that its operations were hit by the cyber attack. “We can confirm that on Tuesday, June 27, AP Moller-Maersk was hit as part of a cyber attack named Petya, affecting multiple sites and select business units,” Maersk said in a tweet. It said, “We are responding to the situation to contain and limit the impact and uphold operations.”
Till this moment the www.cert-in.org.in has not issued any statement or issued any advisory. However it is expected cert-in.org.in which is the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, under the Department of Information Technology of Ministry of Communications and Information Technology should have taken action swiftly when this attack surfaced around 18-20 hours ago in Ukraine, Russia & parts of Europe.
Petya Ransomware seems to be in circulation from last year with variations existing in the name of GoldenEye & Mischa. It is amusing the Government Of India have failed to take note & prepare the establishments to protect against these malwares.
